Music is who I am

Nyawĩra is a Singer – Songwriter  and Music Producer  from Kenya. She is fondly referred to as “Nyawĩra Siren” due to her strong connection to the water element, her magnificent voice timbre, and her deep passion for the art of sound.

 

Nyawĩra’s music blends Gĩkũyũ Folk Sounds with Reggae, Neo-Soul, House, and Jazz influences. She writes and sings in Gĩkũyũ, Swahili, and English, crafting a unique sonic tapestry that is both deeply rooted in her cultural heritage and globally resonant. She has named her genre “Urban Folk Soul”.

Nyawĩra’s musical journey began at a young age, but she officially launched her career in 2012 when she auditioned for the African TV talent show “Tusker Project Fame”, and placed as the 1st runner-up. That same year, she released her debut singles “Blaq Cinderella” and “Mũciari”, establishing her as a rising force in the Kenyan music scene.


Since then, Nyawĩra has carved out a distinctive niche for herself, mesmerizing her fans across Kenya, Africa and beyond with sheer ease. Her music continues to open up new possibilities for her. She has had the privilege of sharing the stage with legendary musical icons like Franck Biyong  and Juma Tutu, further cementing her status as one of the most sought-after live performers in and from Kenya.

Nyawĩra’s musical talents have also been leveraged for impactful projects, including collaborations with UNICEF, UNESCO, the Government of Kenya, and various corporate entities across Africa, the Middle East, and the West. She has also lent her compositional skills to film scores, such as for the movies “House of Lungula” and “Monkey Business.”

In 2025, Nyawĩra is set to release her highly anticipated album “Kĩhumo • 33° ,”

which loosely translates to 

The Source/Origin/Roots • 33° ”.

 

This release is poised to showcase her artistic mind and musical versatility, solidifying her

position as a trailblazing artist who uses her music as a medium to spread love, healing, and self-awareness.

Nyawĩra herself has eloquently stated, “Music is not what I do; it is who I am.

 

Her captivating sound and her commitment to using her art to make a positive impact in the world have earned her the admiration of influential figures, including renowned journalist and broadcaster Jeff Koinange, who has described her voice and music as “haunting in the most complimentary sense.
